Estrogen treatment is at the forefront in hot flashes due to vasomotor disorders. Likewise, the use of estrogen is recommended for urogenital atrophy, which causes complaints of vaginal dryness, pain during sexual intercourse, frequent urination, urinary tract infections and urinary incontinence. Estrogen therapy is also used to protect against osteoporosis or heart diseases. Hormone therapy is recommended to prevent depression and emotional fluctuations that occur during menopause and occur due to the need for estrogen.
The risks of estrogen hormone therapy are; bladder diseases, uterine cancer, breast cancer and breast pain that we call mastalgia.
The leading health problems for which hormone therapy is not considered appropriate are breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Estrogen is also not used in some liver diseases and blood clotting disorders. Finally, it is not recommended to use it in vaginal bleeding whose cause cannot be determined.
Hormone replacement treatments are arranged by gynecologists by individualizing the benefits and harms they may have for you.
